So I know a guy whos selling a projector and I'm interested in buying.
Its a BenQ W1200, and its at a great price, only a few hundred quid. I wouldnt be able to buy a projector like this at retail price. Only problem is the LAMP indicator is red when turned on and then disappears after ~15sec. Works fine after that. Lamp has been replaced and problem is unchanged. Any idea what else could be the problem? No warranty left.

Should I go for it and tinker with it (although apparantly it works fine) or could i be at risk of throwing a few hundred euro down the drain? Im happy to buy necassary parts if needed, I just want to make sure it could be fixed.

    Thanks very much!
    Avose

I wouldnt touch it if I was you.
A mate of mine worked for years in Leightons (Leeds) and I had a similar problem with my BenQ 1060. Lamp lit for about 20 seconds when turned on and then went out of its own accord. I didn't think much about it, but after about 6 months the whole unit just sat down. He took a look at it fo rme and told me to bin it, or sell it for parts. The repair wuold have cost me in the region of 500 quid to fix. Anyone who knows anything about projectors would immediately try to offload it as soon as they saw this error. Its a classic trick to get rid of a dodgy projectior as the buyer can't see anyithng majorily worng with it, and the seller is long gone before the unit shuts down permanently!!!
