Just saw this (apologies if earlier thread)

    http://www.stickybottle.com/latest-news/cycling-ireland-board-resignation-following-decision-to-nominate-pat-mcquaid/

I don't know him personally but have enjoyed his informative postings on here.

It has always been obvious that he is a cycling man of great integrity. A good man lost by CI.

I applaud you, Anto, it is a pity for Irish cyclists but I hope you'll be back.

Really annoyed at this. Think all of us here appreciated Anto's posts & help. Best of luck in future endeavors Anto.

A man of principal. Fair play to him.

A great contributor to this board and seemed to be a right man for getting sh!t done.

    All the best to him

Its an ill wind and all that, but I thinks Team Leinster just might have found a coach with more time on his hands than he envisaged,to give our juniors a dig
out on the approach to the junior tour?
Keep the chin up Anto [not the bearded chin]

Hopefully others will follow his example

applaud his decision fully, but if the article is right, and he was the only one to vote against, then it would appear the others have made their bed already and quite happy to lie in it

well done anto, have nothing but respect for those who stand by their beliefs

Sorry to see you go Anto, and that you felt you had to take that step. But well done on all your work on the board, for your work on boards*, and for sticking to your principles. You've got my vote when you run for UCI President!

*see what I did there? :D

Sorry to see you resigned Morana. Personally, I can understand why you did it, but for many of us CI will now be a closed off organisation, and if you were the only dissenting voice, then I think there's a lot of crap ahead for members.

but for many of us CI will now be a closed off organisation
The Chairman of my club is on the Board. I will be expecting him to be a lot more accountable to the club that nominated him going forward. I would encourage others in a similar position to question their representatives. If you do not have someone on the Board, your club is permitted to send delegates to the AGM. Let those delegates know your feelings, or better still ask for a delegate slot yourself and participate in the AGM.

In addition, there is now at least one vacancy on the Board that will need to be filled. I am not sure, but others may be up for re-election or required to step down this year. If you want change within CI, think about what you can do to help bring it about. We need people like Anto to stand against the incumbents or to fill any vacancies that arise. That's the way we can help influence things going forward.

I've said elsewhere that people need to be prepared to put something in to get something out. Being a Board member of CI is a pretty thankless task, and I shall repeat my prior coimments that the current Board have been prepared to work in what they believe to be the best interests of the organisation and its membership. Even if I disagree with their views on the McQuaid issue I am still prepared to thank each and every one of them for the time and effort they put in. However now is the time for change, and the members do have the power to go about it - they now need to show the inclination to actually do something

Presidents position is def up for renewal this year.Present president wont be standing as he has reached the end of his 2nd 2 year term.Think also that the treasurers position is for renewal this year, plus the position that morana held,as it was due for renewal in November anyway. Not sure if they'll fill it in the interim.

Anto Moran was a fantastic board member. He put so much into the job and his door was always open to members. On this forum alone, his contributions have been invaluable. It never mattered how small your query was, Anto was always there to help people out. Hats off to him for sticking to his principles in recent weeks. I understand why he resigned, but I'm very sorry to see him go.

    One word: Integrity.

You're the only one coming out of this looking well, Anto.

Very sad to see Anto quit CI , it's a pity more of us didn't back him up by writing or emailing the board regarding the McQuaid vote. Best of luck in the future .

It's firstly a loss of the community and then for CI. Fair play to you sir.

    Anto,

Just listened to you on Newstalk. You came across so well.

    Your an absolute gent.

Hope you can get back on the bike soon and start to enjoy again.

    Joe.

Only just made the connection between the man and the username. Want to add my voice to all others here - benefitted on a number of occasions from his wisdom in relation to CI matters. "All it takes for evil to prosper is for a good man to do nothing" In this case the good man has done something and I hope it can make a difference.

I really admire a man who stands up for what he believes in....like Morana

Anto is a nice fella ,so is Pat ,life isnt always black and white.

Feel obliged to add to the above comments. I know little of CI and cycling in general yet I have read so many informative posts on here from morana.
The most appropriate post above (for me) was the one that said no problem/query was too small for morana.
Thanks for your CI related help in the past and thank you for the future contributions you will make.
    Slo

Well done Morana, the only one with morals and scruples , your definitely on the higher moral ground.
What are you going to do with all your free time on here not replying to all the questions that get thrown at you!

See you on the road sir

Just another voice of support. Good work.

I would like to wish Anto all the best and to thank him for the help he's given me and numerous other ordinary members over the last number of years!
Very sorry to see him resign but thought it was probably inevitable given his obvious disillusionment with the recent decision or more probably his total isolation on the Board.
While I understand his stance, and would likely have done the same thing, I also wonder whether you are better "inside the tent pissing out or outside pissing in"?
As CI Members we are undoubtedly poorer for his decision!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,185 ✭✭✭nilhg

I too would like to express my thanks to Anto for his work in CI and my best wishes for the future, I'm sure in a way it's a great relief to have the whole sorry episode behind him.

It's just such an incredibly frustrating position to be in. I really like riding my bike, and racing against others, both on road and on track. I have lost faith in CI and UCI, but I don't want to give up my sport. This means I lose one way or another.

On topic, I understand and support morana's decision. It's admirable how he has made a big statement in his last act as CI Board member by walking away. That cannot have been easy, at all. I wish you the best for the future, and I hope that your enthusiasm for the sport recovers.

Anto, I don't know you personally but thank you for standing up for what you believed in, in what must have been difficult circumstances. I was thinking along the lines of C3PO as well but I think by doing what you've done, you sent a bigger signal around the cycling world that people are now willing to take a stand and maybe it will make a difference.

I wish you ever luck in whatever you do next, and I hope no matter what you still enjoy cycling.

Anto, I never actually met you but I remember seeing your inspirational mane of silver hair at the Stamullen GP in either 2010 or 2011.

Your posts on boards were always helpful and supportive to guys riding at home and abroad.

As others have said, you walk away from this with your head held high, a man of integrity and I think that while the board may not appreciate that, the members of Cycling Ireland certainly do and I am sure they will make their voices heard.

Although I am not a CI member this year, I appreciate all the effort you put in and that you stood by your convictions. I don't think anyone will forget that any time soon.

Just listened to Anto on the radio.....I could listen to him all day.....I think he should have his own programme.....I know he is disillusioned with cycling ....maybe a programme on agriculture :-) :-)

Seriously when he sums up the case againt current UCI management failures , he is succinct, pertinent and poetic

Tuned in to RTE the other night and seen Anto on.Thought it was something to do with the resignation thing.
Turned out to be a documentary charting his time on the road with Ronnie Drew,Luke Kelly, and the rest of the lads in the Dubliners.
Only joking but I'd love to see you up at youths stuff our way at the weekend Anto.Only grassroots stuff but boy is it real.

Thanks Anto for all your help, especially on trivial matters like my licence etc, I don't think others would have given me such a fast & informative response.

Typical of my luck that it is this week that I have my first licence query for CI!!
