    Hi,

I got an email from Aer Lingus this morning -

"Just pay taxes and charges to Britain!"

"This week we're offering flights to Britain at just the cost of the taxes and charges! All of our routes to all regions of Britain are included in this offer for travel from May – Dec.
    Book by 23 Apr."

I have spent the last hour looking for these flights and have found nothing to Britain that is any cheaper than usual. I am only interested in flying to London and my dates are very flexible. Can anyone find these cheap flights or is this just a publicity stunt?

    1 Adult 1 x 35.99
    Fare p.p. 0.00
    Taxes & Charges 35.99

I think they've cranked the charges up so they could lower the fees to be honest.

    nope
those taxes are lower than you pay to germany for this past number of years so to be honest it does seem to have a relationship with the actual airport charges for passengers, security etc.

EDIT, the oldest booking I could find a reciept for is from the 01/04/2009 and even then the taxes there were an average of 34Euros each way at the time to Germany.
I'd also add that the taxes are different in each direction so it'd actually have been more like 30one way and 38 the other, so MORE than you are complaining about paying now 4years and 2 weeks after I made that booking.

Sorry, that fare was one way, so my advice to you, would be to chill out and to not be so hostile:), plus you're actually flying a decent distance to Germany.

Taxes on a UK round trip come in at about €19, airport charges are between €20 and €35 (I think Heathrow is the most expensive). Anything above that is imposed by the airline. Most airlines have a "Security Surcharge" levy of about €12, others add "Fuel Surcharge" and other whatnot. Ryanair are the most transparent in providing a detailed breakdown of fees. Aer Lingus are pretty bad at it.

The departure taxes from Heathrow are the most expensive. €71 for the Summertime.

We bagged flights to Amsterdam May 14th-18th for €86.00pp

Not sure about UK routes but to be fair to EI, that's a decent reduction on the regular fares to Schipol.

    1 Adult 1 x 46.99
    Fare p.p. 20.99
    Taxes & Charges 26.00
    Returning EUR 62.99
    1 Adult 1 x 62.99
    Fare p.p. 20.99
    Taxes & Charges 42.00
    Admin fee
    EUR 14.00
    Fare Total EUR 123.98

Just pay taxes and charges to Britain??

Posted this on Ranting and Raving earlier - for the 2nd weekend in June (leaving Fri evening, back on a late flight Sun), €92 return DUB-LGW, 0 fare, €14 admin, €78 total taxes and charges. That's pretty much exactly the same as what that flight pair normally costs. Total cod really.

I looked at this also and seems ryanair is still cheaper than EI what happened to EI they used to be very competitive with Ryanair now they are rip off merchants
