Does removing the cables "reset" the box?

I plugged in my new Humax on Sunday and have been getting to know it since. I have a few things left on my old Sky+ box that I was going to abandon, but since I'm keeping it longer than expected, I think I might plug it back in and watch them now.

However, I seem to only have 2 cables coming in to my house from the dish, and both are plugged into the freesat box. If I plug them out and put them back in the Sky box, will I lose all the things I did on the Humax, ie will I have to start from scratch next time I plug it back in?

The manual for the Humax is dreadful, to be fair, as this is the sort of thing I'd expect to be covered by a user manual.

You'll be fine - they'll stay on the hard drive -you can just switch the boxes over and it'll be fine - make your you power them off before messing with the cables.

Why not transfer only one cable to the Sky box and run it in single cable mode?
That way you can use both.

Also, if you've cancelled your Sky sub, you wont be able to access any of the recordings on the box.

So I can use one cable going into my Sky box and watch my shows, and one cable going into my Humax and record other shows? I just won't be able to watch while recording on the Humax, is that right? Does it make any difference which cable I use?

    Either one will do.
