Is there any reason why they're using the Premier feed with ident on Setanta 1 now?

I know it's the same company but it seems a little unprofessional to see it.

    Anything official said by Setanta?

They are using the same feed for both channels now. Hence the reason for the blackout on setanta 1yesterday afternoon when premier sports was showing the GAA that TG4 have the rights to here.

most be a cost saving exercise for setanta..

Yep, I wonder are they in financial difficulty?

You would be thinking that they would get rid of the premier sports ident if they are going to do this, looks completely stupid to have the channel named Setanta Sports 1 and channel ads/idents as Premier sports.

If they don't get Premier League rights for the next 3 seasons, I'd say they're gone.

What are they playing at I wonder? ... from what I can make out on the bit rate on Setanta Ireland is running at has actually increased slightly after Setanta Sports 1 separate stream was switched off on the 8th.

Setanta Sports 1 and Premier Sports are now the same service.

Can only be a cost saving exercise - pricing is crazy and with BT Pay service about to commence its hard to see viewers paying for Setanta/Sky & BT.
€15.25 in Ireland for Setanta Sports with GAA programs blocked
£9.99 in the UK for Premier Sports

Premier will go black for 3pm Premier Leagues just like Setanta Sports 1 do for the GAA.

Surely it would be better if they renamed Premier Sports UK back to Setanta or changed Setanta Ireland to Premier Sports... it looks very very bad with this current set-up.

I thought the sub in Ireland is €16.99. I take this figure from the ads they were running for the half-price offer of €8.49.For sure if they don't get any footie rights next season, they're doomed.

As far as I'm aware Setanta can't trade under "Setanta" ever again in the UK after the collapse of the business over there.

A change to Premier Sports Ireland and Premier Sports 1 is surely on the cards if that's the case so mate.... you would be thinking it would be the case under a normal broadcaster anyway :)

I'd say it boils down to money..... or the lack of it!

How does "Setanta Sports 1" (Premier Sports) stream now identify itself on a Saturday afternoon when the Premier League is on?

If it's the same stream I assume it is calling itself Premier Sports all the time but when the Premier League is on on a Saturday, what logo is on screen - is it then called "Setanta Sports 1" when blocked in the UK, or is it still called "Premier Sports"?

BTW As far as I know, for Ireland it's BT and Sky next season, not Setanta and no Saturday afternoon matches.

Yeah I would think they will just change the logo back to SS1 at 3pm next Saturday.. as for Premier League next year its actually still up in the air a bit, at this stage the only definite thing is that sky sports will have 116 live matches. BT hasn't yet announced plans for Ireland and the Premier League said 3pm rights will be announced at a later stage.

Just checked Premier Sports website and noticed (aside from the new logo!) that they even have Setanta's FA Premier League game on Saturday in their schedule, with the ROI only disclaimer of course.

Presumably this means no more Irish advertisements outside of ROI specific programming. So has it got to the stage then where the carriage fee for Setanta Sports 1 was more than the amount they were earning in advertising? Has this occurred on cable also? (Are there any Setanta Sports 1 subscribers left on cable...)

And what will this mean for other times when there are clashes in Irish rights. Thankfully the Open does not clash with a Formula One race this year but what if it had? What about the later Formula One races? What about in the Autumn when the Champions League and Europa League return, will Setanta be able to use Premier Sports for clashes? I noted that on Europa League QF 2nd leg night (which I presume was the first following the Setanta Sports 1 - Premier Sports merger) there was only Europa League football on Setanta Ireland wheras previously they would have shown a game on Setanta Sports 1 too - for this reason the Newcastle game did not get shown in this jurisdiction.
