bought one of these in my local super market for 2:99 yesterday. I thought it looked unusual and according to the label it flowers in winter which would be cool. Anyone got one? Are they easy to grow?

Mahonias of all types are generally easy to grow as long as they are not in waterlogged soil. If you are planting yours outdoors (recommended) they can survive in full sun or light shade and will grow pretty quickly. The leaves are prickly enough so make sure its not in a place that you will be brushing up against it. The scent from the flowers is lovely at a time of the year when very little else is in flower in most gardens. The fruit (grapes) are small and blue and very popular with birds (don't think they are edible for humans) so you'll be adding to the wildlife food supply as well.

cool, cheers. The pictures of the flowers look lovely, it's difficult to imagine such big colourful blooms in winter. Sounds like it will be a good addition to the garden
