About to seal the deal on the BTW scheme for a Motion Typhoon 2 (see link below).

    http://www.countrycycles.co.uk/index.php/component/virtuemart/road-bikes/motion-typhoon-2-detail?Itemid=0

The other two cycles I looked at were the Jupiter Spider (€650) and the Viking Torino 2012 (€650).

Anyone have any views on why I should not go for the Typhoon… or for the €699 sheets I am spending can I get more of a bicycle elsewhere for the same money. The local shop only has a limited supply. On that note, have people found prices have spiralled as a result of the BTW scheme?

I will be doing short cycles.... on average 15-30k once per week

    Thanks Boarders

The one thing that would put me off are the brake levers. These are the old style-Sora shifters which means they have a button - rather than a second lever - to change down and up on the left and right shifters respectively. The buttons work ok from a mechanical perspective, but they are poor ergonomically; you can't reach the buttons in certain positions on the handlebars.

A friend bought a Giant Defy 3 recently. This has the newer Sora setup, so no silly buttons. The Defy 3 has a list price of €840, but he got a discount of 10% without trying too hard = €756. On the BTW scheme, the difference might be halved - depending on how much tax you pay - and there is often the facility to pay it off monthly. The Defy 3 is the first cousin of the Giant Defy Advanced 2 which won Bikeradar's 2013 bike of the year: link

I know where my extra €2.38 a month would go;)

+1 on what route66 said, plus Giant is a well respected name, whereas I haven't heard anything about the others you link. This would also significantly affect resale value were you to upgrade at any point in the future.
