im looking to find out some information on an old cabinet. its 7-8 ft high, dont know what wood it is but its dark like walnut, it comes in two pieces the top piece having leaded glass doors with locks and the bottom has two doors again with locks and all the keys are with it. written on the back is swizters & co ltd and two reference type numbers and a stamped number.
anyone have any insight into the cabinet or on swizters?

Switzers was a department store where BT is now on Grafton St., they operated under that name from 1838 until the stores 'merged' in 1995 when the Brown Thomas store across the road (where M&S is now) closed and the old Switzers store was rebranded as 'Brown Thomas'.

The 'Switzers' label on a piece of furniture means very little, they sold furniture upstairs for years so it could be from any time period when they were in business. I believe they started in 1838.

You're going to have to post photos.

Edit: those numbers on the back (if they're on labels separate from the one that says 'Switzers') could be auction lot numbers, it's possible that the cabinet was sold once or twice as part of a house clearance but I wouldn't read too much into that.
