Well lads what do you think of Tweed Jackets? I happen to think they're class! I'm definitely interested in buying one. Any ideas where to get one? Looking in River Island, Topman and a few other places and they don't seem to stock them.

I'm based in Dublin. They look class all right but a bit pricey. Do you get what you pay for or do you pay for the brand? Could you get a good one for <€150 for instance?

Definitely check out the Harlequin then. I'm not sure how much they are but they always look to be in good condition. Mostly in the brown and grey shades, with the leather buttons. My own tweed is second hand but it's perfect, all I had to do was tighten the buttons.

High street wise, I feel they might be more of an Autumn/Winter piece, so there won't be many around this time of year. Keep an eye though, Topman, River Island, Zara.

Asos has this one for €98 but the close up image doesn't make it look great http://www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Slim-Fit-Tweed-Blazer/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=2665279&cid=3606&Rf900=1632&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=Grey

    This one looks OK http://www.asos.com/ASOS/ASOS-Slim-Fit-Tweed-Blazer/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=2756565&cid=3606&Rf900=1632&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=Brown

But, you could get a second hand 100% wool one for half the price.

It's definitely the wrong time of year to be trying to get one. Perhaps in 6 months time I'll start looking properly rather than just browsing online or fruitlessly looking in shops.

I saw one in Debenhams which was about €150 but it was a massive size and came nowhere close to fitting me. Like this must have been for a 6ft 5 guy. It was on the reduced rail so it seems to suggest that they're clearing that sort of stock for a more summery stock.

Ideally I'd have one for the the horse racing where tweed seems to be a very popular option but I suppose I can save in the meantime.

If you're set on getting one soon and don't want to spend a lot then Twee's advice on second hand options is sound. You could also try the various charity shops in the city centre, though you could spend hours in them and come up fruitless.

If you're willing to wait then I'd save up as much as possible and invest in a well made, pure (and heavy) wool jacket when A/W 13 comes round.

Magee at Arnotts usually have a few, they're the only reputable name that springs to mind right now.

It's not that I don't or won't spend a lot it's just that I was wondering could I get one for a lesser price or would the quality just be shíte?

When it comes closer to winter I'll be having a better look if I don't pick one up now

Marks and Spencer sell reasonably price genuine Harris tweed jackets but it would be the wrong time of the year to find it in the shops. Sometime around early August would probably be your best bet.

Definitely get what you pay for with tweed, particularly if you want form and function.

Unless you're going second hand, I'd hold off until Winter, or the January sales if you can wait 'til then. Hackett usually have them year-round, but they are rather pricey. Barbour may have something in their sporting lookbook.

See if Harlequin's have anything in a lightweight Harris tweed for the Summer if not. I also spotted three lightweight tweeds in a vintage/second hand clothes shop in Georges Arcade, might be worth checking, but I'm not sure about quality.

Check out John Rocha ones, I got one from 200 to 100 in sales and its light, ideal to wear just a t-shirt under it.

Nice few there, and 60-100% wool. Wool is very hardy and will wear well.
