Terrible dandruff

This is quite embarrassing for me, but the dandruff I have is so bad, it's just indescribable. It never really started getting bad until I started dying my hair about 4 years ago.

I've tried every shampoo under the sun and all the home remedies. The only thing that works is the Kerastase Bain Exfoliant. It has little exfoliating beads in it which is brilliant, and i guess it is the kindest to my coloured hair too. I had run out of this shampoo and was just using a normal shampoo and in that couple of weeks, it is incredible how severe the dandruff has become. I need to keep using the Kerastase and never stop or it will return!

Does anyone know if it is an effect of colouring your hair?

Is it real dandruff or just dry scalp ?

Some days if I shake my hair id destroy the place with white specs!

Two different hairdressers have told me its dry scalp

Proper dandruff is big flakes that can stick to hair as well as shake off and has a strong oily smell.

I have to use head n shoulders but as this is rotten on coloured hair I'm going to try the keraste product you described.

I do think its linked to hair colouring as my scalp can get very agitated at sore at times

Sorry I don't think this was much help :( to you op

I've been told you can buy hair colour in health food shops and either you or hairdresser can put them in.
I've not done this yet as I've heard colour is not as nice
I suspect I will have to use one of these in time

If it is just dry scalp try putting conditioner on your scalp as well as through your hair as when you condition it may be just through the ends. Leave the conditioner in for 5/10 mins before rinsing, just to moisturise your scalp. The cold weather over the last few weeks could also make dry scalp worse. Hope this helps.

It's dry scalp and it is the effect of colouring your hair.

I have coloured my hair since my 20's....I am now in my 40's. I have long blonde hair - blonde due to an excellent hairdresser otherwise I'd be white!

    This works for me -
I only wash my hair once a week with shampoo (it dries out my hair) - I "wash" my hair every day - I wet it and use L'oreal Elvive Colour Protect Conditioner. I don't blow dry my hair and I use L'Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil on the ends or where I think my hair feels dry.

I wonder if a sulphate free shampoo would help?
I've heard people talking about sulphate free products specifically to combat dry scalp, it makes sense to me as the 'suds' produced by shampoos and other cleansers are meant to be very drying, maybe worth a try?

Lush do a shampoo bar called Soak and Float which is specifically to combat flakes.

It smells ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING but it does work!

My mom has psoriasis (which causes bad itchy scalp and dandruff) and she's used T-Gel for years. She also colours her hair regularly so I'm not sure if that aggravates the psoriasis or not.

Try Philip Kingsley and the scalp toner to go with it. You can get a small size on www.feelunique.com and it only cost 8eurso for the shampoo and 7e for the scalp toner. IT dont contain SLS so wont dry scalp. H&S is not good.

It is definitely dandruff. It's can get all over my hair sometimes. I have tried all of the shampoos, I used to really like T Gel but it really destroyed my hair colour which I pay £50.00 a month for. The Kerastase shampoo is absolutely brilliant, but it is quite expensive and if I even just wash my hair once with a different shampoo, the dandruff comes back!

I would just love to never have this problem and never have to worry if anyone can see any dandruff in my hair. But I could never stop colouring my hair.

Apple cider vinegar! Do vinegar rinses with 1 part apple cider vinegar and 3 parts water. Google it, there's lots of info. Apple cider vinegar really helps to calm itchy and flaky scalps/ skin in general. It's great for my eczema and I bet it would help you too.

    Hi.

If its really bad I would go into the chemist.
The assistant should be able to give you a proper consultation and service.
It might be a bit more expensive but properly worth it.

I've heard really good things about Moo Goo products. I've just ordered some stuff from them for skin. I know that they do shampoo and conditioner. All their stuff is made from natural ingredients. I ordered direct from them as when I looked at the online prices and the price in my local pharmacy, the mark up in the shop worked out more expensive for the smaller size than the larger size online.

My skin is in bits and really intolerant lately and I need something to calm it down.

I have psoriasis which has calmed down a lot since my treatment in the hospital and they also advised me to massage olive oil into my scalp every night and then wash as normal next morning. It's the only thing that works and I've been prescribed numerous expensive potions by the doc - they were crap.

    *WARNING*
Please do a patch test of anything new you wish to try because you might make things worse, always do a patch test and wait 24-48 hours to see if your skin is affected!
