It appears legit anyway, OP. The seller has a rating of 99.5% so that bodes well for their reliability. It's free shipping too. You should view the item in ebay.ie. It'll show the item in euros and the correct shipping information, etc. You're currently viewing it in ebay.com.

    All the best. :)

I purchase a lot of items from the far east on ebay and the shipping is almost always free on small items as they are shipping it in economy post. As it's only a small package they only need to ship it in economy post.

If you're ever in any doubt of a seller you should always check their feedback.

It'll give you an accurate indication of what other buyers had to say about this particular seller. You'll be covered by ebay and PayPal's terms and conditions even if an item doesn't get delivered.

You'll often find items a lot cheaper from sellers in the far east in particular as it was probably manufactured there for that market. It would be the same if you went to India and seen a Parker pen for e8, you wouldn't really think twice about it. Only now you have ebay and they can sell a Parker pen for e8 and ship it for free.

If you have any queries about the shipping or if it's an authentic Parker pen then just email the seller and ask them to be sure.

OK many thanks. Would manufactured in india for that market mean it is not the quality of one i would buy here?

I wouldn't answer that OP as I can't say I'm particularly au fait with quality of pens to be honest. Best to go onto a specialised pen forum as you'd get more informed advice there. :)

Yes, you can use a Visa debit card to use PayPal. But PayPal won't accept Laser Debit cards however.

Hi , just to clarify my post above

The table template paragraph is a copy of your sellers negative feedback .

As you can see there are various complaints as follows :
    • cracked case
    • broken tip
    • no ink
    • wont write
    • seller not responding

If he accepts Paypal , you will be protected in the event of non-delivery or item not as described .

But if the tip is broken , or there is no ink , or it wont write , then your case may be complicated , and you may need photographic evidence / video evidence to prove this .

I also notice , that you need to get Paypal verified

The fact is that you'll rarely find a seller that sells a lot of items with 100% positive feedback. That particular seller has a 99.5% positive feedback as I mentioned already and that's a pretty good percentage. It's at your own discretion if you wish to purchase the item but one would imagine that you would be ok.

I hate ebay.ie as it still bizarrely has no sort by "price including shipping" option, the most obvious thing people want to know.

If you use ebay.com you can sort by price including shipping and select your country. If a shipping price appears then they ship here and the price shown is Irish. Another tip for rarer items is to select UK as your region, then ask the seller if they will send here and how much (never bid before this).

If the price is too low it is likely fake. Of course they can put the price up to make it look legit. It could be a reject smuggled from a factory. I saw a program where the company would remain open at night on the sly and produce excess items with the companies own tools, then sell to the blackmarket, so they were the exact same.

Sometimes companies will only sell to agent who agree to sell at a high margin. This would be typical of high end stuff. They want an air of quality around it, they know sellers will only get rid of a few and so require high margins. So what you can have is say an official (but corrupt) agent buying parker pens agreeing to sell at €50 a pop, making €25 on each one. They could offload these to a ebay seller who is happy to make just €2 on each one. Parker would not be impressed but cannot track how they got them.

There is also regional pricing, levis jeans charge wholesalers more here than in the US. Tesco planned on buying on buying wholesale in the US and importing to the UK & here and were stopped.

It could well be fake in an irish store. If you got it in the likes of Weirs I think it is far less likely though. Some proper irish shops had fake levis years ago.

The more popular the item, the more likely it is to be counterfeited, so GHD hair straighteners, UGG boots, rolex, sandisk & kingston memory cards etc.

I sometimes purposely go for lesser know decent brands as it is less likely they will be fakes.

There are lots of guides on spotting fakes online, it is in the companies interest to help with these, though many are independent.

How to spot fake Parker Sonnet pens
    • All of the Sonnet counterfeits I have seen have been sold "without box", making it at least somewhat easier to eliminate a fake from your shopping list. Look for pens sold with proper Parker packaging to begin with, and you'll go a long way towards ensuring that your Sonnet is real.
    • The lacquer finish is not evenly applied, and has a slightly rippled texture to it. Finish is really not up to Parkers standards.
    • On the genuine Sonnet, the feather accents on the clip are very distinct, on the counterfeit, they appear much lighter.
    • If the counterfeit has what purports to be an 18K nib, there is a chance that you can differentiate it by checking the nib with a magnet. Obviously, a plated steel nib will be attracted to a magnet, a solid gold nib will not. However, there are some alloys of stainless steel that won't be attracted by your magnet either.
    • The real Sonnet Chiselled Tartan has a two tone nib; the counterfeit has a single tone nib.

There was a questionable looking converse site around and I emailed converse themselves who confirmed they were legit agents. In saying that non-legit agents could still be selling genuine stuff, as I said before they might sell below RRP which manufacturers might frown upon.

A fake pen is no big deal, its when you get fake high power electrics or other items where failure is catastrophic that you really have to worry.

Even the cheaper high volume items are fakes, "skerpie" markers
