Anybody out there suffering from intractable hiccups. I have had them for 14 months and the medical world are at a loss to help etc - have been told they could stop as fast as they started. We would love to communicate with fellow person if they are there.

Hi. It really does seem to be a really rare condition as have been back to specialist only just over a week ago and he is only now going to research in UK to see if any other help available - not on any sedatives now as none of them worked for me - but have to say hynotherapy relaxation tapes give some relief and also get relief when asleep at night - but other than that nothing!!! It is now 19 months!!! Really weird - taking life one hour/one day at a time at present!!!!!

Please keep in touch with me. I have started my own thread called "my super rare condidion". People just don't understand how hiccups takes over your life. Last week I was climbing up st Patrick showing a visitor and I started going into serious spasms choaking to breath for 30 seconds or more . It's horrible stops you enjoying anything. As I have said I will be posting again in two weeks or so . Don't want to go jumping any guns yet saying I have the cure as I gave Gotten free periods before only for it to return with a vengeance.

The guy from the bbc documentary contacted "the man who could no stop hiccupping" contacted me and said please go get an MRI. To rule out any tumors . He end up with one but was cured after brain surgery. Yes worse case scenario but worth checking all the same

Thanks bar . Im a bit shocked at how far and wide my story has exploded . I'm awake but for once not because of the hiccups but just getting my head around the crazyness of today.
