Hi, was wondering if any other ladies on here, have had a mirena coil removed and if so, did you have any problems with cramping, or bleeding after ward.

I had mine removed on thursday, this morning I started bleeding heavily and have been very crampy.

Was hoping someone could tell me this is normal and will stop soon :)

    thanks.

I had one of these a few years ago. I had lots of problems with mine and had it removed and I had heavy bleeding and clots, and lots of cramps. Did the person removing the coil give you any indication that this would be the case?

No, thats what got me wondering, she just removed it and said come back in three months. never said to watch out for bleeding or cramping.

But ive been googling :) and seems it does indeed happen a lot.

if you dont mind my asking, did this go on for long?

For me it went on for months - (not all the time), but it took a long time to get back to a regular menstrual cycle - and I had bleeding and cramping on and off during that time. Around 6 months I would say - and I had the thing put in for heavy periods, so you can imagine, having it taken out was a blow as I had not had to suffer periods for about 4 years!

For me it was down to the fact that I had all sorts of problems towards the end of the coil - sore boobs, headaches, irritability and I knew in my heart it was down to the mirena, so I had it removed!

wow, months?? feck. Im delighted I had it taken out, but this bleeding is worrying me, everytime I stand I can feel it. gravity :)

Been reading up a bit on it, and it seems there are a lot of women discussing similar effects to ours.

For me, it was supposed to regulate and decrease periods, but in the end it made them worse.
    Im cramping now too.

More painkillers and an early night methinks :)

Crikey, have a gander at this . Merina lawsuit. US of course. Im not suggesting a lawsuit, :) just thought some of you may be interested in the symptoms.

I used a Mirena coil for a number of years with no problems, but I know they cause problems for some users.

When it was removed , I had the mother of all periods. It was awful, heavy and painful but it did only last a few days. I was fine after that, and in fact by the time my 3 month checkup came around, I wsas already pregnant.

Having said that, this is the internet and boards.ie, quite rightly, do not allow medical advice.

if it is worrying you, and it doesnt ease up quickly, go to your GP.

Hi Huskerdu, thanks for you reply, sorry if it seems I was looking for advice, was really just wanting to see if it happened to other women.

Im still fecking bleedin from this, was very dizzy yesterday too, I notice the blood loss is worse when Im standing. Ive decided to give it a few more days if I can, then I might go back to Doctor.
    :)

    Thanks for the responses.:)

All the possible side effects listed there, and many more, are in the Patient Information Leaflet supplied with the product so unless it is different in America I don't know how the lawyers can claim that this information was kept from the public.
There is no 'ideal' form of contraception (if there was there would be no need for other kinds) and every woman must decide what suits her best, listening to the health professionals rather than lawyers.

By the same token there are many women use the Mirena with no problems whatsoever. I had no bleeding or cramping after mine.

I and 2 of my friends got them in after our last baby, 2 girls had to get them taken out, caused problems. I took mine out myself as I had a feeling it was causing me bad skin (turned out right), had no problems.

Maybe go on some iron for a few day's.

Curious, were any of you guys told that it could take keyhole surgery to remove a coil? Nasty yokes.

    "Disappear" in alot of women.

    <snipped video>

That's not a Mirena IUS, that's an IUD - different thing completely - and KNOWN to cause bleeding problems.

A rare complication of IUD usage is migration of the device through the wall of the uterus and into the abdominal cavity. This video shows laparoscopic removal of a Mirena IUD that had migrated from the uterus into the upper part of the abdomen.

They are a type of iud.

How many is a lot? Without figures that statement tells us nothing.

Pictures of any type of surgery, or of natural processes like childbirth for that matter, aren't pretty but complications are a risk with any medical device.

Hi readers, had my mirena coil removed last Thursday after 3months and here is a summary of how I'm doing since, started bleeding lightly Friday, Saturday very heavy bleeding enormous clots when I stood up the clots came flowing out, nothing was stopping this, very dizzy, unusually calm although I welcome this back as I was very irritable and cross when it was in.Sunday after a night of constant blood loss I was beginning to wonder if I had any blood left, I had severe cramps constant clotting, dizziness all day now, also very pale.Today is Tuesday this is my 5th day of huge blood loss and dizziness. Can anyone tell me if this will go on much longer? I forgot the 2st weight gain in 3months my new craving for fatty and sugary foods contributing to this.does this settle? Anyone have similar experience?
