Career change, gaining work experience towards the end of my studies.

    Hey all,

Im currently doing a part time IT Degree, currently in second year but planning to graduate next year with an ordinary degree. As i will be in my third and final year from september i'd like to arrange some kind of work experience in IT which will help me in my career direction and in securing full time work once i graduate.

I currently work full time in an area completely unrelated to my study area but have the option of taking unpaid six months leave from my current job. How difficult is it to gain work experience and what is the best way to approach companies? There is no prospect of changing roles in my current workplace or gaining any kind of relevant experience.

    Many thanks,
