My prints are getting cropped.

Sometimes my photos get cropped when I get them printed. Does anybody know how to prevent this from happening? I save them as jpegs in PS Elements before I copy them to the card. Sometimes when I crop my photos I use the 'use photo ratio' to keep the same dimensions, so I don't know if this is having an affect. Is there a certain way I can edit/save them so they won't get cropped?

Can you select a crop ration in elements? You want to keep them at 4:6.

try goto a professional photo printing place instead of boots/tesco/online/local pharmacy !

or as the other poster has said .... resize them to the size you want them printed and hey presto ...shouldn't be crop-able !!

In the aspect ratio menu there's a 6x4 inch option. Is that what you mean?

Yeah, that's it. That's the ratio your prints are done in.

I go to a professional printing place to get my larger prints done; the 8x12's for my portfolio mostly. The problem with elements is that the aspect ratio only goes as far as 8x10.

You sure about that? Will it do 4:5?

Yeah I have it opened now. This is exactly what's coming up:

    No restriction
    Use photo ratio
    16x9 in
    2.5x2 in
    5x5 in
    4x6 in
    5x5 in
    5x7 in
    8x10 in

You can select a custom ratio in PSE

Any time I crop in PSE I never crop in as tight as I know there will be a little bit lost off all sides when they get printed. Just leave that little bit of space around the image and you should get what you want when the image is mounted.

4x6 is the same aspect ratio as 8x12.

Thanks mikka. I have that set up and saved now.

4x6 is the same aspect ratio as 8x12.

But if you crop to ratio 4x6 @ 300ppi

When you print at ratio 8x12 it won't be at 300ppi..

It's a ratio so it is the same. 4x6 @300ppi is the same as 8x12 @300ppi is the same as 16x24 @300ppi. It's not the same as 4"x6" @ 300dpi.

That's only if you set the crop to inches, I didn't mention any unit of measurement. You can set ratio, size, and resolution independently.

In elements selecting the aspect ratio, it sets it up in inches...

When I selected it in mine it came up as cm. I had to change it to inches. Does changing it to 300ppi make much of a difference to quality?

Hi, In Elements if you select Edit/Preferences/Units&Rulers and change the Rulers dropdown to be Inches then the default measurement you enter in the Custom Crop will be Inches

Anyone here try elements 11? Just wondering if its worth upgrading from 10?
