Hi, can anyone tell me where abouts in Dublin I could pick up an Ampeg BA112? Musicmaker and Waltons don't seem to stock them.. Hoping I don't have to order online as I'd like to hear a demo first before buying anything. Thanks : ]

Waltons in Dublin are the main dealers. Xmusic does not stock Ampeg.

Music maker do have a stock of Ampeg. However Ampeg combos are not what they use to be. They lack the quality to survive be lugged around in vans etc to gigs. The one you are looking at are better that the ba300/600 range, those should be avoided at all costs.

Thats great, thanks unclebill : ] I'm looking for a really good quality solid state amp for home use. The Ampeg I mentioned got some decent reviews http://www.musiciansfriend.com/amplifiers-effects/ampeg-ba112-50w-single-12-bass-combo#review I've a budget of around €300, any ideas?

Must be recent enough? Can hardly call themselves a dealer with 2-3 units in stock now... Not that Waltons would be any better!

The one your looking at would be ideal for that price range. I would look a other makes to get more for your money but you would not go wrong with what you have chosen.

    Alternatives,

Fender Rumble 75, EBS Classic, Ashdown 5 15 and Hartke a70.

Thanks again unclebill. I was actually looking into the Rumbles, good reviews also. Not looking for fancy effects or serious loudness here, I'm just interested in getting the best sonic quality/clarity for my bass, at that price range. I'll probably go for the Ampeg given their reputation, it'd be nice to own one. That said, would you have a personal preference out of the amps mentioned?

The build quality of Ampeg combos have gone down hill as mentioned. When you open them up there is nothing in there and what is is very cheap and poorly built.

Anything Ashdown or for lightness and power and if you can get one in budget second hand Markbass are brilliant.

Just to add. Ampeg has become known as Nampeg. Most of there gear is no longer made in the USA. From my experience the BA300/600 are just plain crap. The one you are looking at i've never gig'd but have used for practice or studio work. They are fine. I've got a hlf Nampeg and side by side to the USA HLF its near impossible to say which is which for build quality.

As for Ashdown..... IMHO they are even worse than the Ampeg BA range. I've just turned a Ashdown cab into a coffee table..... best thing its done.

Markbass, yes if you have the funds. Again I've played them and the sound don't carry. Just me, dont like em.

The Ashdown EVO 500 and EVO 900 are bullet proof, never had major problems with them and they are nicely priced second hand.

Ashdown went through many stages some years have good products some not as good, I think the manufacturing moved about a bit. I have a MAG 300 that is great. Still going strong just don't use it enough anymore. Its the 2x10 combo I have and has never failed me

Ashdown Evo 500, 2x10 and 1x15 was my rig.

Head died twice, UV meter stopped working. 1x15 failed. 2x10 speakon broke. All purchased new and kept in in a van with nothing else other than the basses in cases. I would assume the models above them have a better build but just would not spend the case to find out.

Repaired and sold on the head and 2x10 and turned the 1x15 into a coffee table. It was a case for me that I can't afford for something to act up on me.

Must have been a bad batch!! The only thing I'e had happen is the glass on the meter fell out of a 500 and the 900 had a dirty input pot.....

Hey, I was in Musicmaker recently and was looking around at their bass combo amps. I've yet to get a demo of the following but just wondering what you guys would go for. Orange Crush CR50BXT or Fender Rumble 30/75. http://musicmaker.ie/161-solid-state-bass-combos In particular, I'm looking for whichever would give the better low-end sound. Musicmaker don't do Ampeg anymore btw.
