Hi all! We are thinking of getting married next year in Cork in the registry office with just close family and friends. We were hoping to be able to rent a bar for afterwards for the rest of our guests which would be around 80 people. Hoping to get someone in to decorate it and caterers to do food buffet style food etc. Trying to keep costs down and not to keen on the traditional sit down meal in a hotel. I know The Hub in town was able to be exclusively hired for events but it seems to be turned in to an ordinary bar now. Would anybody know of anywhere that would be suitable? We are in the really early stages of planning this so any help would be appreciated..

I also wouldn't be interested in hiring a gaa hall etc :)

I know of a couple who had a reception in Flannerys on the Glasheen Road

Do you know if the room was closed off with doors, or was it just a seperate area?

Na Piarsiagh in Parklands will be able to accommodate you too. My niece had her 21st there, and you get exclusive use of the bar, and security at the door.

In fact - you could ask ANY GAA club! I think 'Barr's and Glen Rovers (although not a nice area!) can do this as well.

Sorry!! Saw your edit. No GAA...:O

Corkgal27, I don't know the details as I wasn't at the wedding but I believe it was upstairs. Give them a ring for info.

I know a girl who did the same thing they had their reception upstairs in the blackrock inn, it was lovely.

What about somewhere like The Observatory?

is it just the sit down meal you don't want? a friend of a friend got married (civil service in the hotel) and had a buffet meal instead of sit down due to costs, so if there is a hotel room you like you could still have the buffet.

otherwise you could ask in restaurants you like in the city, i've heard of scoozis, the boardwalk and luigi malones having hosted wedding receptions before, costs may be lower...

the blackrock observatory also do wedding receptions and you can add a marquee to the restaurant to extend it... if you ask they might do buffets too,

Thanks for all the suggestions! Was hoping for something less formal, trying to keep the costs down for guests too! I will look into all the places that ye suggested, thanks :)
