I've an interest in this course, but I decided to do pass French as I had no inclination to pursue it in third level, I was doing one too many higher level subjects and the teacher is rubbish.

If I were to go for this course, I'd chose Chinese as the language. But do I still need to get a HC3 in a third language, even if I'm not choosing to do said language?

Yeah unfortunately you do. The C3 helps to show that you're capable of language learning, even if you have no desire to pursue that language in third level. You could do normal business degree and do a language, but you wouldn't be able to choose Chinese. The only languages you can choose are French, Spanish and German.

These are the modules on the international business one:

These are the entry requirements for International Business:

Ah. Thanks for the rapid response.
I could probably do the higher level paper and scrape a C3, but with the orals looming I think it might be a bit too late to make such a decision.

The orals are exactly the same for ordinary and higher level candidates. The examiner doesn't know which level you are taking. If you really want to do this course, better to chance taking that higher level paper and maybe getting the grade you need than to take the ordinary paper and eliminate any chances. However, if you do want to try taking the higher paper I'd talk to your teacher asap and start practicing higher level papers etc. so you're familiar with the layout and all that.

Does it have to be a third language? If I got a C3 in Irish would it count?

    Nope, sorry.

From website: In addition to the general entry requirements for admission to the University, the following apply:
OC3 or HD3 in Mathematics and HC3 in a language other than English or Irish.
