Help needed, registering a horse with the AIRC

    Hi all,

    I'd really appreciate some help with a bit of confusion!

    For registering a horse with the AIRC do I just need a basic passport or do I need more? It says on the AIRC website that to register a horse with them their name has to be registered with a relevant authority. How does this work with a non pure bred horse? Is his name on his passport sufficient? He hasn't got one currently but I'm arranging that now and it'll just a basic white one. Also I'm a member of the AIRC but his owner's are not, can I register him myself anyway?

    Any help gratefully received!
    Thanks!
    Mar.

    OK - it is actually quite a simple process :)

    You need your horse to have a passport - white is fine - it just means no breeding recorded;

    Then download the form on the AIRC site - HERE - and fill it out; You then sent it off complete with a scan of your naming sheet and marking sheet from your passport;

    And yes you can register him under your account;

    Thanks so much for your quick reply!
    It's the naming sheet bit that got me. I just downloaded a form for a white passport with the horse passport agency and there was no mention of registering a name. Does this mean I should go with Horse Sport Ireland instead, I see they have naming sheets in their online files.

    Thanks, feeling a bit lost with this process ;)

    Just went online there and had a quick look at the form I think you are talking about... in section two - Animal Details - to be completed by a vet - there is a section for a name;

    When all that is filled out and you get your passport back - it is the naming sheet on the actual passport that you scan in :)

    Bob, you're a lifesaver!
    I was tying myself up in knots seeing some naming sheets online with 4 options for your registered name and seeing I'd need a registered number to sign him up with the AIRC.

    So basically I just need his passport, fill in the AIRC form and (apologies for terrible pun...) Bob's your uncle!

    Great!
    The vet's coming tomorrow so I'm sure he'll know more than me anyway but just wanted to make sure the horse passport agency passport was all I needed.

    Phew!
    A beer now I think ;)

    Cheers for your help, trying to get him registered in time to apply for Stradbally so I'm up against it ;)

    No worries at all - yes basically once you have your passport - the AIRC registration is very straightforward :)

    Enjoy!
