Ford Focus 09 spare dummy key

    Hi Folks

I do a lot of surfing and would like to get a dummy key cut for my 09 Ford Focus. The dummy key would allow you to open the door but won't start the engine. This way I can leave the proper key inside the car and carry the dummy one with me on the water in a small pouch.

Can a lock smith cut one of these?
Would a metal key without the chip open the car door? Or do you have to have the chip in the key for it to work?

Sorry I think this question should have been posted in the DIY section.

Most locksmiths (any that do car keys) should be able to do this for you.
Just explain that you don't want the transponder, just the key.
You will probably have to explain exactly why you want this as some of them will try to sell you a "coded" key c/w transponder.

Edited to add that the "dummy" key will open the lock/unlock the doors manually (not remotely). The transponder chip is just for starting the car.

Ya any good locksmith will do this. I did exactly what you want to do for my van for a few music festivals last year. Hid the main key inside and myself and a buddy carried a plain (no transponder) key each that only opened/closed the doors for the weekend. Good idea IMO

If you have a key code Ford dealers can cut basic keys for 30€ or there abouts

I got a plain key that would open the door /bonnet on my 04 mondeo for 15.
