Changing a faulty rectifier in my alternator

    I found out that that my astra 03/04 1.7dti alternator has a faulty rectifier,
    i was actually going to buy the part costing 17pounds and fit it myself but i was told it a difficult enough job to do..anyone know

    I did one on a 1.9 Diesel Vectra with no previous experience of doing one after being pointed towards it on the net. Im guessing you have a similar denso unit. Getting the alternator out was the hardest part on the vectra (without access to under the car in our case). Fitting the rectifier is easy. Mostly just bolt on. There are 3 solder points to remove and redo when fitting the new one. A fairly powerful soldering iron is needed.

    Here is a very detailed video of the complete process (assuming your is like the vectra one)

    ta, its looks a difficult job to get it out on the astra too,, a lift or pit would be handy

    Still, even if you cannot get it out, buy the rectifier, let garare take out alternator. take alternator home, replace rectifier and take back. Certainly a better bet than having a garage fit a used part with a dodgy rectifier.

    Even better - let garage take out alternator, give them new part and let them fit it at the same time maybe? Extra charge shouldn't be that expensive, and you save a lot of time.

    got mine out but completely different from the vectra one and mine has a vacuum pump, anyone know correct procedure on how to open it
