Searched for a thread on this film but couldnt find one. Ive read a few reviews on this and it seems to be really good. Apparently it was made on a very small budget but despite this its been praised for its cinematography, script and acting.

    The trailer looks very promising.

Would love to go see this, but unfortunately its not showing anywhere near me, its a shame cos it looks like a good film, pity not many people will get the chance to see it, while plenty will go see braindead sh1te like Scary Movie 5, it will probably be out on DVD soon enough anyway.

Saw it last night. Quite good, but very miserable. Cinema was nearly empty, but at least the numpties stayed away. They wouldn't be bothered with this as it didn't have anyone with large boobs or explosions...

Been looking forward to this for a while.

The director made it with a car loan from his local Credit Union. He's now been signed up by WME Talent Agency and has the same agent as Martin Scorcese - or so it's been reported.

Can't wait to see this, just saw trailer. Something about bleak rural based movies that appeal to me! Like Garage, and Silence.

The young director was on the Late Late Show on Friday night, if you want to check out the interview on RTE Player.

Very bleak but very touching film on the loneliness of farming in rural Ireland. For an amateur actor, Joe Mullin's performance is so believable, better than most over-paid Hollywood actors!

Can follow director on twitter (very active on it) - @gerardbarrett

"#PilgrimHill still climbing the Irish box office after three weeks. Opening in more cinemas around Ireland next week. Thanks everyone. GB."

Thats good. Would actually like to see it. My wife is from Kerry and doesn't want to though as she thinks its too close to the bone. Which is praise in an odd sort of way!

Do not go to see this if you're in bad form.

No but do go see it if you want to see a very moving portrayal of rural life in ireland.

I'm not a farmer but I live in a rural area and am surrounded by them, the ending of this film really hits home. Bleak and heartbreaking, but it's a film that really needed to be made. Hats off to the small team that made this happen.

Great to see a Irish film get some positive feedback on this forum. The director comes across very down to earth during that interview.

Lot of Irish films get positive feedback on here. Hell, many of us celebrated What Richard Did as one of last years best films. We just don't feel the need to go easy on a film just because its Irish. The problem with Irish cinema is that if you criticise it people instantly call you a begrudger and refuse to recognise the shortcomings of films such as King of the Travellers or Charlie Casanova.

Went to see this last night, I was the only one there, I know it doesn't have the appeal of Star Trek/Iron Man etc, but I expected a few people would be there. Though it was brilliant, I'm from a farming background so I can completely identify with it, the isolation/quietness etc.
Though the lack of music really added atmostphere to it.
The scene where he tried to stop the two lads taking his stock away was heartbreaking
One of the best films I've seen in a long time.

Remember that it has been on general release for the best part of a month and as such it's not likely to be playing to packed house.

My local cinema only started showing it last week, I knew it wouldn't be packed, but I was suprised that there was no one else there.

But how many people from the area ventured further afield to see the film assuming that the local cinema may not get it in?

I haven't a clue to be honest with ya, it has been showing for about a week, I imagine some of those showing might have had up to 20 people at them.
