Following this thread : http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=84002210. The guard didn't show up for court but she sent a replacement, long story short the nct, insurance and tax was struck out but there was another summons that was adjourned until October the summons reads ''failure to report change of ownership'' The judge asked me ''guilty or not guilty'' I just said not guilty.

I was wondering does anyone know how I can sort the ownership situation out and if not what's the penalty that can be imposed if I can't prove it?

    thanks

Did you sell the car or buy it?

You can write to dept of transport in Shannon and advise them of the change and request your details be added to the vehicle file. Or just get the seller to send in the log book like he is supposed to.

You should also doublecheck that court date.

Hi, I bought and sold the car since then and the car was in my name when I was stopped, Thing is the guard never checked my reg or anything like that when I was stopped which makes me wonder why she sent me the summons.

Well the judge just said October 7th? at 2.00

    I was thinking that myself??

the exact wording on the summons is ''failure to report change of ownership (buyer)''

How do you know she didn't check your reg? If the car was in your name just look for confirmation in writing of this from Shannon. You'll be listed as a previous owner for the period in question.

There is an obligation on both buyer and seller.

well, what I meant was she didn't check the reg there and then, It was a checkpoint and she just checked insurance and nct and recorded details ect.. After that she just waved me on and went to the next car, but she obviousally checked my details when she went back to the station or something like that..

The reg is on the NCT disc and they can see the plate from a good distance.

I only sold the car in January 2013 and the summons was for the 9th of june 2012 so it won't be anything to do with selling it? yes sent to Shannon

Get onto Shannon and ask if they can send you something to say how long you had the car. If you can prove it wasn't sold you should be fine, pain is that you'll have to go back to court.

Well lads, I just rang the transport office and the car wasn't in my name, I'd forgotten I transferred it into my mates name, car was off the road for 4 months and instead of getting it stamped by garda my mate thought it'd be handier to transfer the ownership to his name, I suppose that's what the summons is about  So what happens when I go back to court now? A Fine? or worse?:o:o
