    Hi,
I recently had two fillings done. Molars in each side of my month. Last week I ended up in crippling pain and went to the dentist on Monday, was given an x-ray and sent home with prescription for pain killers. Two days later I went back because I just couldn't cope with the pain, I was then told that there was a gap left by the filling and my nerve had gotten infected. She told me if I didn't have root canal I'd lose the tooth so she started it there and then. It was a huge relief to be out of pain tho totally stressed about the cost.
However, today I started getting the exact same pain where I have the filling in the other side of my mouth.
I feel like balling, I can't afford another root canal and why did she leave these gaps in the first place?
    What can I do?

was english the dentist's first language as 'gaps' seems like a wrong choice of words, or maybeshe was just trying to break it into lay man's terms and it was explained/taken up wrong.

a deep filling can irritate the nerve for a while after, and how it reacts can be unpredictable and in your case unfortunate. give the second one a couple more days to see if will settle, manage the pain with ibuprofen and paracetamol, but don't leave it if it doesn't

Yeah she said that the other dentist (in the same practice) left a gap where food got in and stayed, infecting the nerves underneath.
The other one feels ok today I think I may have been a bit paranoid because I've had to eat over that side for over a week.
    Thanks for your reply!

I'd get a second opinion if I were you. Sounds a bit dodge. From my experience tooth pain usually indicates a problem!

I got an emergency filling once and the dentist did an awful job and I ended up with an abscess which was agony. I went to another dentist the day after and he was appalled by the appalled by the work done. Cost me €800 to save the tooth.

Not saying that this will happen to you but I'm always a bit wary!
