As per the title, I was wondering if there are any shops in the South which sell freesat (not FTA) boxes? Particularly in the Cork area!

Yes, Maplin for one. I would assume many TV shops do.

Don't know what part of Cork city or county you are in, but Fitzgeralds Electrical in Mitchelstown sell Grundig Freesat boxes.

Cheers for the replies. I'm in the city area. I had a look at most of the major stores online (Argos, Currys, Soundstore, etc) and none of them seemed to stock them.

I just checked Amazon and you can take your pick of Freesat boxes. Just find a company that ships to Ireland, not all of them do, but most won't refuse a sale. Also, sometimes, some of them say online that they can't ship to Ireland, but if you ring them up, they will sell and ship to Ireland, once it's not "public knowledge" so to speak !

I looked in Maplins this evening and they had the Humax-HD (the non PVR version) for €200 which seemed very expensive to me for a unit without a HDD (which is only £100 on amazon). I'm doing my best to keep my business local rather than going online, but at those prices it's looking like online is my best bet.

@Play To Kill: Do you have any idea how much the Manhatten's were? I'd be very interested in picking one up.

I can't remember but you could give them a call and find out, google their website.

You'll be a long time finding a bargain for the Humax HDR in a B&M shop in Ireland.

Order from an Ebay seller in UK (some will ship it here) or from Amazon if you can find a seller who will ship here.

When comparing prices be aware that they are a few different Humax models out there.

As an aside I hear Richer Sounds, Belfast are no longer shipping orders south. Wonder what that is about.

Don't forget "Parcel Motel" for UK companies that will only deliver to the UK.

    Often with free UK postage.:)

BTW no affiliation whatsoever with Parcel Motel....simply use them regularly.

Good point. Major savings to be made that way.

I ended up picking up the Manhatten from John Lewis for £70 using Parcel Motel. In the end I couldn't really justify the price differences by trying to get one here. I'm surprised that they are not more well stocked by electrical retailers over here. I always thought that it was a rights thing, but Maplin had them, so I'm guessing it isn't.

Back in 2011 i was looking for a freesat box in cork went out to maplin in blackpool and the best i could get a humax pvr 500gb box was for €408 couldn't believe the price difference when compared to maplin in the uk. Anyway a month later i was in belfast and went to richer sounds behind castlecourt shopping centre and got the box there for £230 or €285 so happy days. If you have a saorview tv well worth getting a freesat box. a year and a half on working away grand.
