Any one any recommendations for a fertilizer for middle of the road type pasture ground that has not got slurry.

Want to put decent spurt of nitrogen into ground and at same time give it something back. Usually put 18 6 12 on it but looking at other options?

I put out pasture sward weeks ago cos its what we spread all last year. some fields are looking very green but very little grass and another field that has made no difference to it. When I asked the neighbour what shud I spread he said go with the PS cos it lasts longer than 10 10 20 and urea, Im only young and looking after a few animals so im no expert I just ask the neighbours

The best thing to do is to take a soil test.

Most likely the soil is low in P & K.

If low in P & K you need something like 10-10-20 or Super Phos 16% to correct the soil balance.

    You could then spread CAN.

Soil test will also let you know if you need lime or not.

See results below, for a soil sample I got done about 18 months ago... (a while ago I know)

I understood it at the time, but reading it now again, not sure what the situation for P is.
Does it say all crops need a P index of 1, which is what the soil sample is?

There was a cut of silage taken off this ground last year, but it only got 2 bags / acre of 10-10-20...

I was planning on going out with 10-10-20 again, to up the P&K (after the silage was taken off, I figured the ground would be in need of it...)
I think Pasture Sward would be too low in P&K, and too high in N for me (I am very under stocked really)

    Thoughts?

    (Sorry to hog the thread...)

    First thing is Lime requirement.

Advice is 11.25 tonnes / ha

That is 4.5 tonne per acre. Unless in an area of high molybdenum, then the requirement is 2.5 tonnes per acre.

Soil is at index 1 for P and index 2 for K

Both of these probably need to be at index 3, so they need an extra bit of P and K.

    10-10-20 would be about right.

Cheers LivInt20 - I should have said it got lime after this soil test was done. Prob around 2 ton / acre. So I'd hope it would be ok-ish for lime for now...

Edit : Actually, that was last year... so it could prob do with more lime. not sure it will get it tho...
