I got an answer from the DAA. They said no issues at all!

I flew from Dublin to Spain last year with the tripod strapped to the back of my camera bag - no issues leaving Dublin.
On the return leg, the policeman in the airport insisted that I take it off my camera bag and put in into my wife handbag where she could cover it with her coat. I thought this a little odd and that maybe he was just doing it for comic effect. About a foot of the tripod was sticking out of her bag:eek:

What was the question you asked them/who did you fly with? Recently travelled myself and didn't want to run the risk of bringing my tripod, bought a gorillapod to use incase I needed it.

    Hi,

I am flying to NCL tomorrow and wish to bring a tripod as carry-on. The tripod has spikes (similar to golf shoes) in each of the legs. I was wondering if that will be an issue?
