Hi folks. My wifes car insurance is up for renewal in 3-4 weeks. My own is due about two weeks later. She has only one years no claims as we only have two cars for the last year, but was a named driver on my policy for about 6 years.
The problem is that she had a small claim on my policy before we got the second car so this will affect both policies (I think). We insured her car with me as a named driver and vice verca but the cost was very steep and the excess was huge.
Is there any insurance company/ broker that would be best suited to our policy?

My understanding is that if it was your policy, then you had a claim.
She could have caused an accident, but you had a claim.

When she is asked by insurer if she had any claims within last few years - answer should be no. But when she is asked if she had any accidents, then asnwer is yes.

And in relation to yourself, when you are asked if you had any claims answer should be yes, while if they ask about accidents, answer should be no.

Anyway - I had similar situation few years ago. My wife crashed in my car on my policy. So she caused an accident, but I had a claim.

She also had her own car and her own policy (with 4 years NCB afair), so she didn't loose her NCB, but she had to notify her insurer she caused an accident, and this caused her policy to add "accident load" into her premium for next renewal. Wasn't much though. Only about 20 quid AFAIR.

Unfortunately I can't advise you how to solve your problem. The best is just shop around, remembering that your wife technically didn't have any claims. It was you who had a claim, while she caused accident.

Thank you for this info guys. I am insured through a broker for both cars. I have step back on my policy. When I was insuring for the wifes car last year, the broker told me that the claim was taken into account. If what ye have said is correct, then the broker has cost me a lot of money!!!
I will be clarifying this with them.
