I hope I`m the right section, but here we go.....
hi folks. I wonder if anyone can help me out with my 01 opel astra 1.7 diesel.
I recently bought the car and it has a tapping noise at the top of the engine. I have been to a mechanic but he told me that it could be worn camshaft or the piston bolt. did anybody had the same problem??
another issue is that it doesn`t have power until it reaches 2000rpm and after that it runs like crazy.
I have cleaned the EGR valve but I have no idea what to go for next.
thanks guy and hope to hear from you soon

The first thing I'd have checked is the valve clearances. If you bring it to ant decent mechanic they will know if its a tappet noise or something else.
