I have two printer toner cartridges that I sold on ebay to a guy in the UK and I tried to post them this morning. When I told them it was printer toner, they said that they couldn't post it for security reasons.
What the heck? How am I supposed to send them to the UK?

Stupid isnt it! I wonder if Parcel Motel would do a reverse service?

I think jack and jill used to recycle old cartridges through a prepaid post bag, but I can't see it on the website.

Seems odd as a courier will take them no problem.

Send by GLS Parcelshop, google it. No problems and will be delivered by parcel force in UK. probably cheaper too.

    This post has been deleted.

They now require a aviation security declaration for any international items. Phones might not be accepted either because of the batteries.

If it's just one cartridge GLS would be quite expensive compared to An Post but at least they will accept them

This kind of thing will actually undermine a lot of online businesses.

Just tell them it's clothing then they will post

    Don't do that

The parcel will come back with a label that says " failed aviation security" and you will have lost your postage.

GLS is cheap if you check the rates, it's based on the size of the parcel rather than the weight.

Really? I send 100s of parcel a week doing it and never had one back.

    what about these: www.citypost.ie
Dunno if they accept toner cartridges, should only be a problem for air transport. If you google you'll find out why; basically someone with some not so nice plans hid some "stuff" inside a few of them. Have since been banned from air transport.

There needs to be an option for posting by land/ferry or by dedicated freight air craft especially to the UK.

It's becoming ridiculous that you can't post all sorts of things!

How is someone supposed to run an online retail business from Ireland ?

Small scale e-retail isn't really possible from Ireland at that kind of rate if you've anything that might contain batteries, liquids, gels etc

An Post really need to be taken to task by the Govt on this one. It's not good enough!

    Listen

I worked on this. It's an EU obligation. No operator will.

I regularely get bottles with liquids and Ink-Cartridges from Germany by Deutsche Post, DHL, GLS, DPD, TNT etc. etc.. All these operators have no problems shipping liquids and ink-cartridges to Ireland by airmail. So this EU obligation seems to be some kind of one way restriction regarding Ireland.

From somewhere -> Ireland: no problem
From Ireland -> somewhere: no way

The terrorists (if alive! or their mates) who led to the introduction of these ludicrous measures in airports & postal services must be pissing themselves laughing. It must have cost millions in lost revenue worldwide, or lost savings to customers, missed flights in airports, extra pay required for employees lengthed trip times etc -loads of knock on effects.

These is even a term & wiki page for this nonsense.
