maths question

    could really use the help..im pritty stuck :L

    find all the possible real numbers a,b for which the function is continous everywhere


    f(x) = {x^3 + ax^2 + 3x + 2, if x < 1
    ... ... {x^3 - 4, if 1 =< x < 2
    ....... {4x^2 + bx + 5, if x >= 2

    i dont know were to start :/

    The first two expressions have to give the same y-value when x=1; this allows you to find a.
    The second and third have to gave the same y-value when x=2; this allows you to find b.

    NB. You need to understand why the above assertions are true. If you can't figure out why, then you don't understand continuity and should go back and check your notes again.
