Working for free?

    Hi all.

I'm getting fairly fed up of being unemployed. I'm qualified / experienced for every job I apply for and capable too, so I reckon much of it has to be a numbers game. It got me thinking - what can I do to have the edge over other people. With some jobs I don't have experience in, or not enough, I was thinking I could call in in person, tell them how I feel I've relevant experience, and offer to work for a week/few days for free, and if they're not interested then, no obligation.

There may be issues I'm not seeing with this though, so I was wondering what do you guys think of this approach. Obviously it wouldn't be suitable for every job, but maybe for floor staff in a pub or something...

I know how you feel, however i don't think that's likely to increase yr chance of getting a job, just increase yr chance of being taken advantage of. An employer who thinks u are what they want will hire and pay you for work. There are places who will give prospective workers a 'trial' which is a bit dodge imo. Being willing to work for free will only increase yr chances with unscrupulous employers. Tho if u really like working for free u could try job bridge.
