Your picking two blacklisted cars. You will get insurance but you'll be paying allot for it.

    I had issues insuring a modified 1.6 at 30.

get a micra, cheap to insure and cheap to run, parts are cheap too, plus when you go to sell it when you move on they are always in demand.

They're terminally uncool though, even a Polo or Ibiza would have more cred.

When I first started driving a 1.4 Civic was costing 1900 a year to insure TPFT, a 1.0 Micra was 2100. I ended up getting an Ibiza as I couldn't afford a Civic and that cost 1900. This was almost 7 years ago but I can't imagine it's changed that much.

OP what age are you and have you gotten any quotes yet?

correct as said 17 on 12 of may. I have tried insurence for a 1994 corolla saloon and it was 1450 which i thought was too steep for a car of its standard. I would be prepard to spend 160-1700 for insurence on a civic. ill probly try and get insurence on aviva and complete an ignition test was told you can save almost 30% on the quote they give you based on a driving test you complete for them. I was quoted 1975 euro from AXA for a 1.4 honda civic but im not prepared to spend that much.

On your own policy?! If you're not prepared to pay that then you won't be driving anytime soon. The prices in my previous post were from when I was 19, and I found them to be ok quotes

1450 at that age is fantastic value. When I was 18 I forked out 2283 on a €400 car I had to assemble myself. I still have the shell of it out of bitterness :p

Wind the clock on today and I'm still getting relatively bummed with insurance, €700 comp after 4 years NCB.... Yes its a 99 car but is as far away from the boy racer image as one can get!

sorry should have said thats its as a named driver.!! sorry bout that. 2100 on my own for the corolla :P

I paid 2000 pound for my first policy on a K10 micra.

Got the price down at renewal only for it to go up again when I got my test.

For the first car id look for something like a cheap fiesta. Easier to insure and if you put a few scratches in it it just doesn't matter.

    Damn i'm getting old

How much would a VW Golf (1998-2003) be at your age?

I bet you'd love one of them :D

Try a broker called creane & creane. The number can be found online

I called Aviva and they told me they could insure me third party for €3000 on a 1997 Hyundai Accent 1.3 hatchback im 20 years old on a provisional I have had for 3 years. I told them its not a jumbo jet im trying to insure. So then i called up Creane & Creane and the same cover for €1250.... major difference.

But the worst thing was, when my cover came through the post i then found out that it was actually Aviva that gave Creane & Creane the cheapest deal and who I am now insured under.

As a first car I'd suggest an early 318ci with lots of kit on it.

Expensive to tax for a first car but they get 40ish to a gallon, lots of parts out there they're alot more sturdy then a Japanese rot box and not much more expensive to buy.

40MPG? I would of thought more along the lines of 30ish

Get a vtr/vts Saxo. I'd one as my first car and loved it there like go-karts and there surprisingly quick. And best of all there handy to insure. 1400e on my 17th birthday. 1400 civics are painfully slow, thirsty, a nightmare to insure, and by now nearly all recked. Hondas should only be bought with dohc hearts:D

If you're interested in a starlet, go for a 1lr rather than a 1.3, cheap to run, tax and insure. I had one as my first, fairly nippy too!
