    After eight months?
You have a responsibility to maintain your vehicle.
I reckon you'd be doing well to get a small contribution from the garage, if anything, but good luck!

Depends if the car came with a warranty or not.

No warranty or expired warranty - no comeback.

I suspect your post is about that the intake oil filter in the sump was blocked and the engine suffered oil starvation and seized?

    Is that it?

Oh, and don't use text speak on boards. Thanks.

Dont fancy your chances in any legal situation as your fault diagnosis sounds like Chinese whispers (ie doesnt make sense).

Reasons like this is why I replace the Oil and Filter upon buying any car, no matter assurances made by seller.

No amount of oil and filter changes would have helped in this situation.

The problem with the Santa Fe is sludge buildup in the sump. It is a good idea to remove the sump periodically and clean out any buildup and also clean/replace the oil pump pickup.

However I don't think it is on the Hyundai service schedule to do this so legally-speaking the OP may not have much of a case.

Interesting! What causes the sludge build up, I thought that was a relic of the past with fully synth (well, modern) oils?

I'd say this has been caused by the oil being changed as per the manufacturer rather than mechanic advice. I think the intervals on my car are 10k miles where as every mechanic I have spoke to says do it every 6k miles. Mines a 1.8t which also suffers from same sump filter problem.

Oil sludge in something like a Santa Fe is normally caused by the oil never reaching it full operating temperature from lots of school runs etc.

There can be elements of the engines design that make the oil situation worse when used in those conditions but it isn't anything that any garage could have forseen IMO.

They will be unlikely to accept any responsibility if its out of warranty .

How often do you check your oil and how many miles have you done since you bought it?
