Hi, my local garage is quoting me 140e including vat to replace my ignition switch (97 be polo)

It is a main dealer part & will have warranty for one year, is the price normal or am I been ripped off??

    Cheers

That's pretty steep, I thought 140 was bad

if that price includes new switch and labor, think it is good price.

Looks that way but have not heard back yet if there are other problems while doing the job :/

    Hope its just the switch!

By the way how will I know if its original part fitted and not a spirus one???

In that case, if you not trust anyone, buy part in dealers, go to garage, ask them take off everything, and , when new part ready to be installed, give them, and stay beside mechanic, until he will finish job, or install yourself.

If I remember correctly the part was 22 euro. The other 200 was for labour as apparently it was a bitch to get at. No sure if I believe that though, it was before I decided to learn about cars so I didn't try to do it myself.

Just on my way to.pick it up, no way to tell if it was a bitch to fit, if even the part was fitted with main dealer part, ul ask for receipt for the part when I go to pay, not paranoid just don't want to be told its ignition switch when it was just a fuse or loose wire!

Got it from garage, all good, no issue, turns on the first go.

    Ignition switch 57.00e @23.00% vat
    Labour 61.58 @13.05%

    Order value 118.58euro
    Taxable amount
    61.58@13.5% 8.31e
    57.00@23.00% 13.11e = 21.42

    Total 140euro
