New Job Offer - hours not possible

Hi all, after 10 months out I have been offered a new role, the interview went very well and they are keen to have me on board but when it came to the hours they basically expect 8-6 (earliest), I glossed over this basically saying no problem etc. However it most certainly would be a problem as I have to collect my kids and will need to be out by 5. How should I approach this?, should I speak up now or start the role and hope it was all interview talk to see how 'dedicated' I was. In past roles I have logged on in the evening if anything needs doing but this is slightly more hands on / production oriented and I would be needed in the workplace. How should I play this or should I pull out?

Be up front about it to avoid wasting both theirs and your time (and if you can find alternative child care solutions).

You need to speak up and tell them the truth. If you have no alternative but to finish at five let them know but also tell them how you could handle this by perhaps dealing with outstanding matters at home as you did in the past.
