Email Scam

Not sure if this is the right area to post so apologies in advance if it is not.

Got this sent to me in an email today...(attached image is just a snippet of the mail)

Didn't go to my junk mail so I opened it (hotmails junk filter is ****? IDK?) and because I have recently been o Australia.

The email will have Dear (your name) - I blanked mine out.

It looks fine but the skeptic in me wasn't so sure so I did a quick search for "ato email scam" found the below link which has all of the info...

    http://www.ato.gov.au/onlineservices/content.aspx?doc=/content/62347.htm&page=9&H9

Just so people are aware as this is definitely one of the better email scams I've seen.

PS the link explains that the "tax refund form" asks for all kinds of bank details, so if the email itself doesn't arouse your suspicion the form should.

    Hope this helps someone.

    Quote from the piece attached:

Important note about your online refund:
For security reasons, we will record your ip-address, the date and time. Deliberate wrong inputs are
    criminally pursued and persecuted.

Ya gotta love them for their incredible command of the English language in the "Australian Govt." :D

i logged into hotmail for the first time in ages recently. it's actually very easy to tidy up now. still won't go back to using it all the time though.

Hehe, no tax office will ever offer to pay you back no matter where they are in the world unless you apply for a review of taxes or a dept wide problem comes to light. Still "persecuted" probably is a more apt word to use when it comes to Revenue.

PS Hotmail has gone all funky now and changed itself to Outlook. Much easier to use, more user friendly and much better than Gmail IMHO.

Yeah I can understand that. I wanted to find the most obvious address possible as well, but had to work around the issue.
