Graphics Card Upgrade

I've got an Acer Aspire 5610 laptop. It was released sometime around 2005 as far as I can make out, I got it second hand more than 5 years ago.

I use it under the telly for streaming Netflix, BBC, CH4, Sky and watching videos I've downloaded.

IT's a grand machine, it's been mistreated, had beer and coke spilled into it, screen jimmied off, it's been opened up and operated on a number of times, a million different OSs run on it and only now showing signs of getting creaky.

    Videos get jumpy and laggy.

I wouldn't mind upgrading the graphics card, but wonder if it's just going to collapse.

Would a new graphics card come with HDMI out?

What even kind of graphics card could I put in it? How much would it cost me? I'd fit it myself.

Just reinstall windows to fix your problem. Computers get slow with all the crap installed. Also upgrade to windows 7 if you have older.

Videos being jumpy may also be caused by network congestion, make sure other people are not using all the bandwidth.

Upgrading video cards on laptop is not straightforward, probably easier and cheaper to just buy a new laptop.

I don't think it's OS related. I've installed many OSs on the machine, a few versions of Linux, and it's the same in all of them.

I have a totally clean version of Windows on the machine - it just sits under the TV as a Media Player, it's not used for anything else - no gaming, no downloading, no work related stuff etc.

There is no "crap" installed on it.

Does it play videos stored locally ok? Do only streamed ones jump?

    Both types.

    Here's a weird thing.

BBC iPlayer Streaming, BBCiPlayer Desktop Downloads, 4OD, Youtube, Netflix and downloaded videos either stored locally or on an external drive - all of these get jumpy, laggy.

BUT, I use Sky Go, and that NEVER has these issues.

It's a wired connection, not wireless.

Most of those use flash which is crap, what about using a normal player like vlc?

What resolution does Sky Go play at? Do only high res videos jump?
