    Anyone else watching this?

Trading up from a little runabout to a supercar

Starts with a Maruti Alto in India

    Then to a Tata Marina

    Then a Hindustan Ambassador

Next stop the UK to sell it.

Totally unrealistic of course, but nice to see some unusual cars and cultures.

Discovery channel, 9 o'clock, repeated later at midnight

As usual he doesn't seem to take all the costs into account, and why didn't he bring a car from the uk to India to start with ?

Ya and how much does it cost to send that car from India to England?

Thought it was OK, but nothing special. The fact that he stayed in a hotel for a few nights was ignored, as were insurance, changing papers for the cars etc etc. Interesting look at the Indian car scene either way.

I thought it was funny the way he went around covered in sweat, Christ knows what the locals thought of him, they take personal hygeine seriously there. :pac:

Import duties in India prevent that from making any financial sense, they do anything to protect their home grown market.

Apologies mods if there is a thread on this already, or if it's unsuitable. I've searched the first three pages.

So does anyone have any opinions on Mr Brewer's latest offering on Discovery?
I've watched the first two, and while it's a brilliant idea, the absence of the real star that is Ed China makes it all the poorer. The whole concept of the programme would have made it difficult to include him but I would have thought that the English episode could have used his input at least.
Also, the constant conversion of every price to dollars sounds incredibly stupid especially when two Cockneys are discussing car prices at an auction. This I presume it's for an American audience where it's aimed?

So does this spell the end for the wheeler dealers, - if American tv interests have their claws in it or Mr Brewer, then what'll be left won't be worth watching.

From a cars point of view, the new show has great potential, but I thought he could have aimed higher than 30k "dollahs"

i enjoy it but every time he talks money then starts doing the "dollah" conversions it does my head right in!

Looking at how big Brewer has got it looks like he ate China.

    Agree, Ed is missed

He's been on Facebook talking about it
Seems the show has been filmed for a global market .
Haven't seen it yet but ED does seem to be the star of the show

Its only from watching this i realise how much i dislike Brewer.

I've watched Wheeler Dealers for years and Autotrader before that, without copping it was Ed carrying the shows.

Hopefully this wont be picked up for a second series and we can get more episodes of Wheeler Dealers per series instead.

Enjoyed it but he should have aimed higher that 30k.....but the fookin sweat off him in the first episode...time to lay off the pies Mike

The scene in episode 2 where he re-does the seats of the spitfire himself looks a bit silly tbh.

I like Brewer but I think he is not suited to TV outside the UK, or at least a British context such as Wheeler Dealers On The Road. I'm not a big fan of Ed tbh, as soon as he opens his mouth, it is obvious that he's reading a script prepared by a team of researchers who have studied the service manuals :pac:

it's not Ed , it's Edd, pay attention!

Now then, he traded in his Indian ****e boxes and got to $3875, then bought an Amby for $3600 and shipped it back to the UK(and flew home himself)...for $275? I don't think so.... It's about as realisitic as mainstream WD, but I'm still going to watch it as it is quite entertaining (it does miss Edd though I agree)

STG£ to US$ doesn't bother me much tbh.

What I did notice was that the cars used and the ways to add value were already familiar from previous WD shows:

1/. Spitfire - new wheels and seats.
2/. Landrover - new wheels and a front end facelift.

We've seen all this stuff before.

I watch wheeler dealers like this.

Show starts I listen to intro for 1 minute, then fast forward to showing Ed the car at the garage. FF anytime mike speaks on his own and watch and listen to Ed do all the work, the TVR was my favourite.

Each show lasts about 16 or 17 mins like that.

The amount of money they make is BS when you factor in labour costs.

If they cut out the repetition the show would only be 25 mins long.

    The new show is silly.

They assume you'll do the work yourself hence why they show how its done.
Thats why labour costs aren't included (they are for stuff not done by tall Edd).

It's a show about doing up cars and selling them on then, even doing the work yourself you still need to factor in your labour or else it becomes a very expensive hobby.

You still have to factor in your own labour costs. No point in saying I made a 1,000 euro's profit on a car when you haven't. Also he never factors in admin or driving/transport costs.

The TVR rebuild would have taken 20 hours minimum labour for a skilled qualified mechanic.

I never said it was completely upfront on costs, I was explaining how's it's supposed to be .viewed by people

On normal WD, if you listen to Edd he regularly comments on what costs would be on jobs he does if they were brought to a garage to be done.

As others have said, the concept is that you buy a car and do most of the work yourself, where the profit would be the payment for your own labour.

As for bringing the Ambassador over from India, they do factor in the transport and rereg costs, just as they do bringing cars from the continent or the US on normal WD.

As with the previous shows, it's too staged.

Agreed. I wish they would commission Ed to do his own show.
