Trouble connecting a 2nd SSD to PC

Hi, I built a pc about 2 years about using an 80 Gb SSD as the primary boot drive. I recently purchased a 250 Gb Samsung 840 SSD and tried to connect it to my ASUS P6X58D-E mobo. I first tried the 6Gig Sata connection on the mobo but in the bios it was not detected but in windows it was showing up as a removable device. I tried in one of the standard Sata ports, this time it was detected in the bios settings but not showing up in "My Computer". Both times it showed up in Control panel devices, but had no option to enable it.

I had a gander on the interweb but none of the suggestions worked. Anyone any ideas? I can't remember any issues with the 1st SSD.

probably the 6gb sata is switched off in the bios, have a fiddle with the ahci and sata settings to see if it detects it then

    Control panel has many subsections.
Do it showed up in disk management but with no format option?

Having read a bit more, that may be the case, though I thought I toggled every option (bar turning it to RAID). The SATA 3 has a Marvell controller, I ended up downloading the drivers for it after being prompted to, but it made no difference. From reading other forums, it is suggested to use the SATA 2 connection as the speed difference isn't that great but is more reliable (lots of complaints about the Marvell controller).

I meant device manager, my bad, yes it shows up under disk drives with my other SSD and a HHD (this happens when in either SATA port) but only gives option to disable it (Not enable it like I hoped). Under properties it is missing some information the other 2 drives have. I cannot think off the top of my head.

are you able to format it in there?

edit: sorry i mean in disk management not device manager

I cannot remember if it showed up in disk management, I physically took it out of pc, so I will have to re-install it tomorrow to confirm if is showing up there. I did update it to the latest driver (well windows 7 did). Now that I think of it, I think I had to format the first SSD to get it to work originally, this maybe the issue.
The Samsung software that came with the SSD gave me the option to clone the System drive, which I want to do, to the new SSD but it said it will wipe the old one in the process, I didn't want to be left in limbo with both drives useless, is there a way of keeping both (other than drag and drop) ?

Thanks guys, it was just of matter of formatting it in disk management. I decided to keep the 80 gb SSD as the boot drive and just use the whole 250gb SSD for Steam etc.
