Hi all just a quick question about skyscanner! Looking at flights and they offer some very good prices but some of the sites are not the airline's direct site but another third party site e.g. youbookit.net, tripair.com and e-travel etc. I know sky scanner has a very good reputation so I'm assuming these sites they refer you too are safe but just want to make sure thanks :)

    It seems fine.

I recently searched for flights to Auckland and the cheapest was "E-bookers".

Made the purchase etc, later that day we received the confirmation email with seat assignments & booking numbers.

I contacted the airlines we are using and both confirmed that they had the booking.

We will be flying next month, but from my experience it was great.

(€770 Dublin -> Auckland btw.... great value.)

I was directed to Expedia through Skyscanner for flights to Indonesia, all worked fine!

Cheers for that!! Booked the flights was redirected to youbookit.net....got a confirmation email and stated etickets should arrive within 48hours via email....no money taken from the account though...but I suppose if they were gonna scam me they'd have taken the money and run by now :P

That's very reasonable - when/where did you book? Hoping to do the same!

I just booked a flight a few days ago with youbookit., no tickets yet even though its three days now. Emailed them and no reply. How long was it before you got your tickets? They got a woeful review on tripadvisor so a bit worried now

As it turned out my bank wouldn't let the payment go through because I had gone over my daily limit on my card. Had to book the flights again on somebody else's card and on that particular day ebookers was the cheapest price and they were great no problems whatsoever!

So I'm of no help really, sorry... hope it works out but skyscanner is a good site, I doubt they'd let their name come under scrutiny from a site they directed you to.

It seems like this is a good way to buy one way tickets as usually with long flights its almost as much to buy a single as a return.

EG, promo fare to Bangkok might be 550e return

Try and buy a single and could cost 450 through the airlines

Saying a website is safe because you found it through a reputable company like skyscanner is like saying a website is safe because you found it through a reputable company like Google.

Personally I wouldn't book with anyone other than the airline direct or one of the big name registered online travel agents like expedia, ebookers, Travelocity, Flight Centre etc. I'm not saying it's not possible to get good deals with them but usually the alternative isn't much more and for the piece of mind of knowing I can contact them, it's worth it.

I've seen San Francisco in October for €520. SO tempted!

Lots of these online travel agents do not have live pricing and it is not unheard of for them to chase you for more than the price you see. This is called *invitation to buy* - it does not mean you have purchased at their advertised fare. You also need to check that all taxes and fees are included - some of these agents do not include free seat selection or baggage fees.

Personally , I would never book airline tickets with anyone other than the airline itself. If there are any problems down the line like delays, cancellations, seating issues, re-routing, the onus is on the airline to advise the online travel agent who then must inform the passenger - I prefer to cut out the middle man in cases like these.
