Received an email alerting me thatinformation on the 2013 course will be available online soon. I am interestedin undertaking the course however the feedback which I received from the 2012has been less than positive from two friends that done in in Roscommon/Longford.Some of the issues that they raised were:

    1) Although told in the beginning that mostfull days would be held on weekends that none actually were.

    2) Short notice (of less than a week) wasgiven for full days.

    3) All farm walks/discussion groups were heldon the one farm

    4) Communication was poor between studentsand coordinators.

I know that having a full time job would makecompleting this course almost impossible as this sort of notice forintermittent days off would not be acceptable. I know one guy who missed adisgussion group due to work commitments and had to repeat that day withanother group.

It seems that the course is being designed tosolely suit the lecturer. I was hoping with FETAC becoming involved that thecourse would become accessible.

Has anyone had experience from other centres?I was considering Dublin or Westmeath.

Could anyone share their experiences of the2012 course?

    Havent got any information yet,

Was supposed to go up onine Monday.

Heard a rumour that the 2013 course would be 18 months opposed to 12, which would be another negative.

Did mine in Pallaskenry last year.

It had its flaws but not to the extent to what you listed. We got a full timetable at the start of the year which we never deviated from. Could be down to the Teagasc guy teaching it, Paddy Murphy, he was organised and a gent. Ours was 12 months but it's now 18. Pain in the ass when you're working full time, you'll lose 15 days AL, but you'll pick up some good info. Overall, worth doing. Then discussion group days were probably the most useful.

You can't miss any of the discussion days, the course has set criteria that has to be met. There are so many students applying now that they could double intake. Take it seriously and you'll pass. Plenty lads didn't bother their arse to study and had to repeat exams, or redo their diaries.

Need a level 6, which is an institute of technology certificate level.

Couldn't have written it better myself.

Also did it during late 2010 to early 2012. Finished it this day last year.

As said, we were given the days and it didn't deviate either however also had a few nights but usually given two/three weeks notice which was okayish only I'm working a few hours from home and college was further again. Was okay with work - just started earlier to finish early.

Mine was from September 2010 to February 2012 but there was a long gap at the end and I didn't finish until April due to work travel in February.

The 15 days is a pain but over two years and with some time off built up it is manageable and cest la vie really.

Found the discussion groups useful too and as said once you put in the work you'll be fine especially with the diary.

If you miss a discussion group you'll need to go to another.

It is a similar case to any walk of life really if you are seen to be putting in the effort (exams and diary and projects), the facilitators are very accommodating and will work for you.
