Well I have the 10 speed tiagra and just made a couple of adjustments the other day and it shifts beautifully. 10 speed will give you less gaps in the ratios so theoretically better overall.

Get the tiagra, might save you upgrading next year if you keep it up.

Realistically, in terms of performance, not a whole lot of difference.

Where the difference comes is weight and compatibility with other Shimano parts.

Tiagra gear is compatible with 105/ultegra/Dura Ace, Sora isn't because it has one less gear.

I reckon sora is grand to be honest, the newest version is lovely to use, it's really just a 9speed tiagra.

Get the Tiagra. My first bike had sora and it never worked smoothly.

Sora works great, it's actually very robust. In terms of performance, there's not going to be a huge difference, the new Sora is quite close to Tiagra.

Personally though I'd splash out out the Tiagra, but that's just me.

The new Sora is a big improvement on the old one, you'll no longer see thumbshifting (except on DI2 Dura-Ace ). Like any groupset, it will perform well if maintained with any regularity.

But still, go for the Tiagra if you can afford it.

I'm gonna sneak in an evil credit card unfriendly suggestion!

Slightly more for Defy 1 but all Shimano 105 components!

Don worry, your credit card won't mind :-)

I would definately recommend a 10 speed arrangement. i have a 9 speed an it is not possible to upgrade without a heavy spend

The new 10 speed Tiagra is excellent.
