Possible to trace insurance details?

    Hey,

Hoping I can get some help here. I was in a minor car accident recently. A car reversed into me in a car park, damaging the front of my car. I was in the car at the time & I spoke to the driver who was apologetic and immediately said that he would pay for damages.

At the time I was pretty pissed off &, not having been in any sort of accident before, I (stupidly) didn't get his insurance details. He said he had insurance however & I did get his name, address & phone number. When we discussed repairs he indicated that he would rather deal without the insurance so as not to affect his NCB.

I then proceeded to get a quote from two garages for the repairs which i sent to him. When I then called the other party to discuss the quotes he disputed the cost of the repairs and claimed that he would have to go through his insurance due to the high cost. Most recently when I called for an update he said that I should be hearing from his insurance. Yet I am still waiting.

So, what now? I was wondering whether it would be possible to trace his insurance details in any way, given that I have his name & address? When I reported the accident to my own insurance company, they indicated that the Gardai would be able to do this if there was a problem.

Any input or help would be much appreciated.

    Your Insurer is correct.

Personally, I'd follow up with a phone call to him and say that if he doesn't give you the details you'll leave it in the hands of the Gardai.

Then call the Gardai (I assume you've got the reg) and explain the situation to them.

You could also have a Solicitor intimate the claims process directly with the other side if you wish.

If you've got Comp cover with your own insurer then you could well put them to work in writing out to him too with a letter of allegations requesting his details.

If you have his name and address, go along and take the policy number and insurer off his insurance disc

Thanks for the input. I think I'll hang on a couple more days to see if I hear from the insurance before taking it further. It's just frustrating waiting. I do also have comp cover so that's an option too I suppose.

@oldyouth - unfortunately he doesn't live anywhere near me so not an option at the moment!

    Thanks again, much appreciated

    Hey,

Any input or help would be much appreciated.

Report it at your local garda station straight away, they will follow it up for you, tell them ye exchanged details but you forgot to ask the name of the insurance company.
Inform him you have reported it as he was unwilling to be reasonable.
