Records of deaths/burials in England 1950+

I've been trying to find records of the death or burial of some relatives in London and Birmingham in the 1950s and 60s. Their closer relations had lost contact with them over the years and the surviving cousins (all now very elderly) have no accurate recollection.
Is there a searchable online database? I tried the BMD search but no joy. Basically just looking for dates and names of graveyards.
    Many thanks

I don't know of any free resources but both findmypast and Ancestry have UK death indexes to 2006.

FreeBMD has reached the late 60s I believe. So it may be that they died later than this, or it may still be yet to be transcribed - there's not full coverage of every year yet.
