Hey guys I have a problem, my gear cable snapped on my road bike which I use for commuting, turns out chain rear hub and few other things need replacing, it's going to cost me €250 mayb more to get it fixed, bike cost 1300€ new I have it a Year with nearly 10000km on her, I am not sure if its worth repairing or not, I have a spare road bike I might use for commuting instead, as I am comcerned using my main training bike commuting has shortened it's life. What do you guys think I should do?

€250 repairs for 10,000km is not too bad a ratio - it's costing 2.5c per km. A new €1300 bike every 1,000km is 13c per km. It's more economical to get the repairs done

It's much more satisfying to get plenty of usage out of a bike rather than worrying about shortening it's life. The more km's you do, the less it "owes" you.

What work was the €250 quoted for? It seem's a bit excessive if it's just for a rear cassette, chain, indexing etc.

Agree. Unless you're running Dura Ace or other top line cassette, I can't imagine that the parts would run much over 150 euro tops; that includes inner and outer brake and gear cables. I don't know what you're paying for labour, but another 50-75 euro buys you the tools you need to do it yourself. I use Sheldon Brown's site to learn what I need to know and take it from there. There's plenty of online information.
