I am new to this site so apologies if this query was dealt with before. My mother is a nursing home and is currently awaiting her fair deal application to get approved. She is aged over 70yrs
Her yearly income is approx €9,400 from rental of farmland (5 year - lease agreement) plus forestry annual premium payment €4,100(tax free)

In addition plus she gets the old age pension230.50 x 53 weeks = €11,976.

She didn’t pay tax in 2012 as her income was below the Income Exemptions for over 65’s. She was liable to approx 340 under USC
Her nursing home costs are €750 per wk. While she is waiting for approval under fair deal can she claim anything back costs under Med 1 for nursing home costs as she pays no tax?
Alternatively if I pay a portion of her nursing home costs can i claim tax back and if so how much?
My typical gross income is €60,000 where I pay approximately €10,000 income tax under PAYE system.
