Travel insurance

    Hi,
I am comparing some travel insurance providers at the moment but also looking for some recommendations.

We need annual multi-trip family cover with a high ceiling for cancellation or curtailment, for medical emergency cover, and for lost luggage.

Anyone have a good experience lately with a provider? (When I say good, I mean good in the face of a very bad situation I guess).

Aviva and VHI seem to be similarily priced but VHI has slightly higher luggage cover.

    Thanks!

Have a look at http://www.getcover.ie/ i used them and found them good. Its the same people who do travel insurance for the credit unions.

What's the difference between the insurance that the airlines provide for e10 while booking the flight and insurance from an independent insurance provider such as the ones recommend above? Thanks.

I imagine the level of cover you get for €10 would be fairly basic, as with a lot of things, you get what you pay for, the only really way to do it is to check various providers and compare what they offer for what they charge

Single trip insurance I've found has got expensive over the last couple of years, I used the AA this year for good cover & price

if you have private health insurance, try Blue Insurance.... An annual multi trip worldwide policy for a couple is about E69...

Annual multitrip with VHI is only E49!!! Its brill. I had to use it abroad and they have an excellent assistance service too!! What sold it for me is that it covered my illness whereas most companies dont!

My wife wants to get some travel insurance but she has VHI and an E11 or whatever its called.
So I don't get it, why would one want any more insurance ? Whats the basic difference with having these 2 items which I imagine are fairly good cover surely, and getting extra cover on that. Shes only going away for a few days and has never bothered in the past, mad if u ask me but anyway,

    Cheers

Your wife may want insurance cover for missed flights, cancelled flights, lost baggage, stolen or lost items (passport) etc etc etc, not just medical cover, sounds sensible to me

Does your wife have VHI travel insurance? If not, then she may want insurance cover for lost baggage, cancelled or curtailed travel, theft etc.
If she is relying on the EI11 card for medical expenses while in the European member state, she would not be covered for the the costs of repatriation.

I always get good travel insurance that covers at least a few thousand for belongings and a high ceiling for medical care. It is important if you are travelling to the U.S. especially where the health care will bankrupt you.

A good policy also covers you in case you need to change travel plans.

In a lot of cases though, if you are just travelling with hand baggage on a Ryanair flight to Einhoven etc for 2 days, the EI11 will do.

If you already have VHI, they have a good plan.

VHI Travel Insurance have a 20% reduction for annual bookings made during the month of April.

Could have this bit wrong - but it seems as if it can be activated online only on the following dates: April 1, 8, 15, 22. So it may have to be backdated to Monday 22 April to now receive the 20% discount on bookings. Not sure what happens if someone phones VHI.

I'll be looking again, for the past 5 years I've used Insurance Bookers originally booked through ebookers, but their premium for next year seems to have doubled! It was the platinum cover worldwide and cost around €90 not similar cover seems to be €188!

Have checked getcover and while the cover isn't as good it seems ok and for half the price.

Likewise, they have lost the plot
