Windscreen Insurance problem.

I have a bit of a problem with getting a broken windscreen changed and I'm looking for an opinion on whether this is normal.
I've been refused a replacement windscreen by my insurance company the reason is they say I reported the claim last december and as it's more than 30 days since then they're not obliged to go ahead with it.
What happened is, the windscreen had a small crack nothting major but before christmas so I went about getting it replaced but I never went ahead with the job as with one thing and another coming up to christmas I never made a final booking but the company I was going to get to do the job had called the insurance company to see if it would cover the job. In the eyes of the insurance company this was reporting the claim.
So yesterday with the crack now bigger I finally decided to get it replaced but no joy. Has anyone heard of this before and is there anything you think I can do.

I see your point but it's the same windscreen for the same price so nothing has changed from that perspective and the claim never went through so there was no cost to the insurance company.

Did the insurance company warn you about this time limit when you first contacted them about the windscreen?

No there was no communication from either the insurance company or the windscreen fitter. They seem to be using "Its in the small print" excuse to get out of it.

Check the Terms and Conditions yourself, ask them to point it out if you cannot find it.

Also download a copy from their Website and keep it, I had the experience that they changed them after I rang.

From an insurance company persepective, what could have originally been repaired, now needs replaced.

If you check your policybooklet, all T+Cs for windscreen should be there. If there is no mention of time limits, contact your company and ask to speak to the complaints department.

No it's not a case of a chip which could have been repaired it was a definite crack just not too bad and I could live with it but it has gotten worse and now it really needs to be changed.
It was just a timing thing, I was going to get it done and with one thing and another coming up to christmas I didn't get around to it.
