Image editing workflow in Photoshop?

When you open a photo taken from a digital camera in Photoshop, what is the typical workflow that needs to be done?

    eg:

    1st: Levels
    2nd: Curves
    3rd: Crop??

And where does hue, saturation, brightness, contrast and color balance come in and if so in what circumstances are they used?

    Any light shed greatly appreciated.

I typically shoot RAW, I usually follow the various tabs in camera RAW as needed.

If you are processing jpegs from your camera you should work with non-destructuive adjustment layers.
